Welcome to my art room! My name is Mrs. Corrente and I have the pleasure of being the art teacher at the Gibbons School. I also teach classes at the South School on Thursdays.
This is the pilot year for A style of choice based our education based on the principles of tab teaching for artistic behavior the philosophy of tab can be summed up in three sentences… What do artists do? The child is the artist. The art room is the child’s studio. ( Douglas and Jaquith, 2018) In a TAB classroom students, are viewed as authentic artists, and groups of materials are made available and introduced to the students one by one (Douglas and Jaquith,2009).Rather than copying the idea of the art teacher in which the topic, materials and final product have already been determined, the students create artwork based on their own ideas and personal experiences. They make choices about what materials and methods to use to create their art. My role is to facilitate their learning by introducing concepts, techniques, materials and artists throughout history that are aligned with The Massachusetts Visual Arts Frameworks. I will encourage and support my students as artists, to build their confidence and to develop their creative mind. PLEASE READ!
ART CLASS CAN BE VERY MESSY!!!!
Please do not send your child to school with their best clothes
on art day. Some of the materials we will be using may stain clothing.
We try very hard to use the materials in a responsible manner but
accidents do happen. Students should bring in a smock/apron/T-shirt
of their own to use during art class to protect their clothes. If an accident
occurs. try spotting with a good stain remover before washing.
